Getting to know Las Vegas
With a vivid night-life offering options for everyone, is difficult not to find something to do here. Clubs, shows, concerts, restaurants, casinos, conferences, sports and outdoor trips are just a few things tourists can enjoy in the fabulous Las Vegas. While European users can play at various regulated online casinos and street betting shops, nothing quite compares to the Las Vegas experience.
What you can do for free in Las Vegas
While Las Vegas is anything but free (very few people can say they are leaving Vegas with more money than they came with), there are still a few fun things that can be done for free just by walking down the Strip:
- Bellagio Fountains
The highly popular Symphony Fountains at the Bellagio are a landmark of Las Vegas. With daily shows featuring fountain choreography on symphonic music and even pop, the Bellagio Fountains are a must see. Daily show times can be found on Bellagio website. - Mirage Volcano
Mimicking the success of Bellagio, the Mirage Casino & Hotel offers a similar show just outside their premises: a park where the volcano roars and escalates into explosions of fireballs and steam. - Venice in Las Vegas
The Venetian with the Grand Canal Shoppes created a Venice like experience where tourists can walk down the canals, cross bridges and even take a ride in the Gondolas (this last part is not free though).
Top spots to visit
- The Strip
Is not Las Vegas experience if one does not visit the Strip where all luxury casino hotels, restaurants and Cirque du Soleil shows are. Prepare to spend several days here, book tickets at shows and spin the slot reels or the roulette once. - Trip to Hoover Dam
Hoover Dam is a concrete arch dam built in the 1930s, the largest at that time. Even so many decades later, it still stands and impresses with amount of work involved to raise such a man-made construction. - Helicopter ride to Grand Canyon
Grand Canyon is just around the corner – sort of speak. There are multiple tours that can be booked to visit the Grand Canyon, but the fastest and maybe most memorable is with helicopter.
Hidden spots to visit
- 18b arts district
An 18 block-zone, full of independent boutiques which sell antiques, vintage clothing and art, as well as boho cafes and restaurants. - The Mob Museum
Presenting the early history of Las Vegas which was linked with organised crime. The infamous mobster Bugsy Siegel had the vision to create a gambling town in the middle of the desert. - Mermaids of the Silverton
Silverton hotel features a mermaid tank. This is together with thousands of tropical fish in a 532,000-litre aquarium, where you’ll find mermaids waving to you through the glass as you drink your cocktail in the Mermaid Lounge.
Restaurants
Las Vegas does not come short on restaurants, with a range from extremely expensive to completely affordable places. Any type of cuisine, grand Chefs restaurants with anything you can imagine are within easy reach from the Las Vegas Strip.
Among the more affordable places would be buffet style restaurants, while if you are looking for something fancier, it may be good to make a reservation at the top restaurants.
Recommended time of visiting
Las Vegas has an arid climate, with hot summers and cooler winters. The best times to visit Las Vegas are during the spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October), since temperatures at the most enjoyable levels.
